Meet and Greet: Dr. Tabitha Wood (UWinnipeg)

In this informal discussion, you will get the chance to talk to Dr. Wood about her experiences in science. Everyone is welcome to participate in the discussion while enjoying complimentary cookies and coffee.

Gilead Panel Discussion

The UAlberta Women in Chemistry is excited to announce our very first Industry Panel Discussion with researchers from Gilead Sciences, Inc. Please join us on Nov 30 in E3-25 at 10 am. Our program will include a short presentation, followed by a Q&A session. Complimentary cookies and coffee will be served.

In the meantime, meet our panelists:

Erica Tiong is a Sr Research Scientist I in Process Research & Development and has been working at Gilead for 6 years. Erica completed her B.Sc., Chemistry (Honours) and Mathematics (Minor) degree at the University of British Columbia and a Ph.D. in Organic chemistry at McGill University. Her Ph.D. studies examined the stereoselective formation of quaternary carbon centers

Ho-Yan Sun is a Research Scientist I and has been working at Gilead Alberta for approximately 2.5 years. Prior to starting her career at Gilead, she completed a B.Sc. in biopharmaceutical sciences and M.Sc. in chemistry at the University of Ottawa with Prof. Keith Fagnou, and then moved to Edmonton to complete her Ph.D. in chemistry at the University of Alberta with Prof. Dennis Hall.

Philippa Payne is a Research Scientist I in the Commercial API Process Optimization group at Gilead. She has been working at Gilead for 1.5 years following a Post-doctoral position at the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill. She completed her Ph.D. in organometallic chemistry at the University of British Columbia.

Vinci Hung is a Research Scientist I in the Analytical Chemistry department at Gilead and has been working at Gilead for 2 years. She completed her Ph.D. in Chemistry at the University of Toronto after which she worked for Health Canada in the Drug Analysis department, working in conjunction with Toronto Police.

Cross Stitch Workshop – Make Your Own Periodic Table

Join us for a fun evening of cross stitching and camaraderie with fellow members of the Women in Chemistry Group. No prior knowledge is necessary, as we will have an instructor present to teach all the beginners! Registration fee includes workshop kit, an instructor, and some light snacks.
